The effect of softening the water quality of fountain solution on the printing process
the water quality of fountain solution is very important to the wetting system. The hard water quality will affect the normal work of the wetting system, and have an impact on the printing process and printing quality. The company installed a canon reverse osmosis R.O membrane water purifier in June and July 2003, which reduced the hardness of water in the wetting system from 18 degrees to 2 degrees. The change of water hardness has the following effects on the actual printing process
1. The proportion of various components in the water tank and the properties of water have changed

After using soft water, the hardness and chemical impurities decrease, and the conductivity decreases sharply. Moreover, due to the use of fountain solution suitable for soft water (cheaper than that suitable for hard water) and the reduction of alcohol concentration, the quality of the wetting system is improved and the consumption of raw materials is reduced
2. It is conducive to solving the crystallization problem on the surface of the roller
the hardness of water mainly depends on the content of calcium and magnesium ions in the water. When the hardness of the water is too high, that is, the free calcium ions and magnesium ions in the water contain different fixtures. We can design different fixtures according to the different samples and experimental methods. When the amount is large, they will have a chemical reaction with the pigment (especially magenta ink), so that the pigment will separate and adhere to the inking roller and rubber roller, and over time, it will form a vitreous crystalline surface, which will affect the transmission of the roller to the ink. Due to the relatively small content of calcium and magnesium ions in soft water, this problem rarely occurs. Up to now, the company has installed the water purifier, and there have not been printing failures such as insufficient or no ink transfer caused by roller crystallization, which often occur before installation
3. Conducive to the control of ink balance
soft water mainly affects the ink balance from three aspects: (1) the reduction of hardness improves the spreading of fountain solution on PS plate, thus reducing the amount of fountain solution. (2) After using soft water, roller crystallization rarely occurs again, and the ink is very smooth in the transmission process. (3) The content of calcium ion and magnesium ion in soft water is less, which basically does not affect the printability of the ink. Therefore, it is easier to achieve the ideal ink balance with soft water
4. Improve the printing quality
before using soft water, the company basically uses Tianjin Tiens brand ink. When changing to other brand ink, magenta ink is very easy to paste at the subtle level formed at some points, affecting the printing quality and efficiency. After using soft water, the phenomenon of plate pasting disappears. The wetting system of soft water can meet the printing conditions of ink in a wide range than the combination of carbon nanotubes and carbon fiber materials
in China, especially in the north, the hardness of water is generally high, generally above 14 degrees, while the hardness of water for printing is required to be below 8 degrees. Therefore, from the perspective of process improvement, water softening is very necessary for many printing enterprises
